  8.     'Ez-Envelopes' allows easily designing and printing standard text
  9.     based envelopes and labels.  For mailing lists, printing labels
  10.     and envelopes for each eligible entry is easy since 'Ez-Envelopes'
  11.     uses standard mail merge data files from popular data programs &
  12.     word processors.  'Ez-Envelopes' uses the current system printer
  13.     preferences when printing labels!  Ez-Envelopes makes printing
  14.     labels and envelpes quick and easy!

  129.     'Ez-Envelopes' can load two types of text files:
  130.  
  131.       o - Standard text files.
  132.       o - 'Ez-Envelopes' text files.

  134.     The standard text files are un-compressed (this releases does not
  135.     support editing compressed text files) and created with any text
  136.     editing program that saves or exports the text file as ASCII text.
  137.  
  138.     Only the first 80 characters of the first 24 text lines contained
  139.     within the standard text file will be loaded.

  141.     The 'Ez-Envelopes' text files are created when 'Ez-Envelopes' saves
  142.     a label or envelope.  Theses text files have special bold/ italic
  143.     & underline codes embedded within them.

  147.     Saving:

  149.     All labels or envelopes are saved in a special format.  If you
  150.     want to specify the file name to save the label or envelope as,
  151.     use the "Project/Save As..." option.

  157.     'Ez-Envelopes' utilizes a full screen editor.  The following
  158.     editing features are supported:
  159.  
  160.     INSERT ........ When 'activated', all text entered will be
  161.                     inserted into the current line.  Otherwise, the
  162.                     text beneath the cursor will be over-written.
  163.     COPY .......... Will copy the block of text selected to the
  164.                     paste buffer.
  165.     CUT  .......... Will copy the block of text selected to the
  166.                     paste buffer, then remove the text from the
  167.                     current label or envelope.
  168.     PASTE ......... Will insert text from the paste buffer into the
  169.                     current document.

  173.     You can move the cursor by using either the [ARROW... ] key(s), or
  174.     by moving the mouse pointer to the new position on the label or
  175.     envelope, then clicking the left mouse button.
  176.  
  177.     Any time the cursor passes over text, the text style(s) associated
  178.     with the text beneath the cursor is automatically 'activated' in
  179.     the 'pull-down' menu.  This allows editing, or inserting, new
  180.     text, maintaining the current text style(s).

  182.     To select a text block, click the left mouse button at the start
  183.     of the text to select.  Then, holding down the left mouse, move
  184.     the mouse pointer to the ending text position and release the left
  185.     mouse button.  The selected text will be high-lighted.

  187.     To change the text styles for an entire block of text, first select
  188.     a text block, then select any combination of text styles from the
  189.     'pull-down' menu.
  190.  
  191.     You can justify a line (LEFT, CENTER or RIGHT) by moving the
  192.     cursor onto the line you want to center, then selecting the
  193.     approriate justification option.
  194.  
  195.     You can also use the [TAB], [BACKSPACE] & [DEL] key while editing.

  202.     Printing:
  203.     ---------
  204.     The size of the label or envelope being printed (in inches) should
  205.     be entered in the 'WIDTH' & 'HEIGHT' boxes located at the lower
  206.     left of the 'Ez-Envelopes' editing window.  Also, the system
  207.     printer preferences 'LEFT MARGIN', 'RIGHT MARGIN' & 'PAPER LENGTH'
  208.     will determine the possible size of the printed output.  The
  209.     printed width and height choosen by 'Ez-Envelopes' will be the
  210.     lowest value of the two.  The system printer preferences are
  211.     specified in characters and text lines: these are automatically
  212.     converted to inches by 'Ez-Envelopes'.  If you are not sure if the
  213.     entire lable or envelope will be printed, use:
  214.  
  215.     "Project/Show Printable"
  216.  
  217.     ... this will high-light the entire text area that will be printed.
  218.     To change this, edit either the 'WIDTH' & 'HEIGHT' parameters
  219.     below or change the system printer preferences.
  220.  
  221.     Set the number of copies you'd like to print.
  222.  
  223.     You can specify any internal character set used by your printer by
  224.     changing the 'FONT' parameter.  However, be sure to check your
  225.     printer's manual for the proper number associated with each font:
  226.     ie, 1 = COURIER, etc.,).  If the font number is zero (0), then the
  227.     print quality will be determined by your current systems printer
  228.     preferences (DRAFT or LETTER).  Otherwise, the print quality is
  229.     automatically set to NLQ/ LQ.  If you use 'FTP' or 'PrinterFont'
  230.     to upload an Amiga bittmapped font to the printer, the font number
  231.     should always be zero.

  235.     Mail Merge:
  236.     -----------
  237.     A mail merge data file consists of a header record & multiple data
  238.     records.  The data file must be in standard ascii text. Each field
  239.     name specified in the header record & each item located in the data
  240.     record should be seperated by either a comma (',') or a [TAB].

  251.     The first field in the merge file header record is special to
  252.     'Ez-Envelopes'.  Normally, the field is processed like all other
  253.     fields, with one exception.  If the field name is SELECT, then
  254.     the first field of each data record will be used to determine if
  255.     the data record should be mail merged (printed).  All other
  256.     fields are processed normally.  If the first field is a 'Y', then
  257.     the record will be processed: all other field values will cause
  258.     the data record to be skipped.

  269.     To substitue a field name found within the data file's header
  270.     record with the corrosponding item in a data record, enter onto
  271.     the envelope or label the field name desired, preceding the
  272.     field's name with a '«' character and ending the field name with
  273.     the '»' character: these are [ALT] 9 & [ALT] 0 respectively.

  280.     The fields specified in the data file's header record are case
  281.     sensitive: 'title' and 'TITLE' are not the same.

  283.     The number of fields & size of each field(s) is only limited by a
  284.     record size of 255 characters.

  286.     Bold, italics & underline characters are not allowed when entering
  287.     the data file field name(s).  This is due to be upgraded in a future
  288.     release.

  290.     When printing more than 1 copy, all data records selected within
  291.     the data file, after printing, are considered to be 1 copy.
  292.     Therefore, if you specify 8 copies, you will get all data records
  293.     contained within the data file printed 8 times each.

  330.     Use 'FTP' or 'PrinterFont' to upload an Amiga bitmapped font or
  331.     a special printer font file to the printer before printing labels
  332.     or envelopes.  However, be sure to set the 'FONT' number to zero
  333.     before printing.
